BANGOR – A man Bangor police arrested at an area hotel Thursday on a fugitive from justice warrant has been released from jail.
Police found and arrested 48-year-old Michael Tegge of Colorado at the Residence Inn in Bangor.
Officials said Tegge was wanted in both Florida and Nebraska on charges related to sex offender registry laws.
According to a statement from the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office, the Florida Attorney General’s Office declined to authorize extradition for Tegge from Maine to Florida.
As a result, Tegge was released from Penobscot County Jail.
Also as part of the investigation, Bangor police originally charged the manager at the Residence Inn for failing to provide records to authorities.
However, Bangor police said the manager was acting in accordance with company policy and did not intend to violate the law.
Since the manager appeared to be acting in good faith, police are dropping the charges against him.
