AUGUSTA – Governor Janet Mills asked President Donald Trump to declare Maine a disaster because of COVID-19.
According to a statement released by the governor’s office, the request was submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which will then forward it to President Trump.
Mills says if the federal assistance is approved by the President, Mainers would have access to more funding for child care, behavioral health, and legal services among other essential services being affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The governor also requested federal funding for the National Guard in the event Mills called out the guard to help in the effort to fight COVID-19.
