PORTLAND (AP) — Maine’s Democratic governor said she believes President Donald Trump’s executive orders meant to address the coronavirus pandemic are about “partisan gamesmanship” rather than relief.
Trump, a Republican, announced an executive order on Saturday that is intended to extend unemployment payments of up to $400 a week due to the impact of the pandemic on unemployment and economic security.
Maine Gov. Janet Mills criticized the order Monday as too vague and said it appears to “subordinate real relief for unemployed Americans to partisan gamesmanship, making families a pawn in a cruel political game.”
Mills said Americans need a comprehensive relief package provided by Congress.
