AUGUSTA – Sports betting will not be legalized in Maine. The bill failed to get the two-thirds vote needed in the House of Representatives, so Governor Janet Mills’s veto on a sports betting bill stands.
This comes after Senate action last week when Maine’s lawmakers in that chamber voted in favor of overriding that veto.
But Tuesday’s 85 to 57 vote in the Maine House of Representatives means wagering on sports games will not be allowed in the Pine Tree State.
A clerk said 95 votes were needed to approve the measure.
