BANGOR – Green Acres Kennel Shop is doing its part to help seniors and their pets this holiday season.
The owners are holding their 12th annual fundraiser to benefit Eastern Area Agency on Aging’s Furry Friends Food Bank.
Co-owner Don Hanson said 100 percent of all funds raised are used to purchase pet food and cat litter for seniors in need in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock and Washington counties.
“A lot of these folks may have to make a decision between getting a prescription or feeding themselves, or paying their heating bill and being able to feed their dog or cat, that may in many cases be their sole companion,” Hanson said.
“A lot of times these pets are the only living, breathing thing these people see day after day so it’s important to keep them together,” he said.
Hanson said if $6,000 in donations is collected by Dec. 31, Green Acres will donate another $1,000.
People who drop by Green Acres Kennel’s shop at 1653 Union St. can donate by cash, credit card or check.
