BANGOR – Just in time for the high school basketball tournament, the Cross Insurance Center will offer healthy snack options at the concession stands starting Feb. 14.
“We’ve been doing the tournament for quite a few years and our local fare sells well but with people with diet restrictions and people conscientious about what they’re putting in their body we wanted to offer some healthier options,” said Mark Strang, the director of food and beverage.
If a hot dog and some popcorn isn’t your go-to game day snack, Strang said up until now they have had some healthy options.
“We do offer a veggie burger at the concession stands,” said Jalysa Parks, the concessions bar manager.
Gluten free chicken tenders and gluten free whoopie pies are also sold during games and events. Now the list doesn’t stop there.
Some of the healthier options include veggie straws, apple slices, even an organic smoothie.
“We’d like to move into salads and some different options further down the road if this kicks off,” Parks said.
Strang said he and the chef at the Cross Insurance Center are working to bring more options to the menu.
One new choice, Strang said, may be a plant based cookie.
Customers can scan these options and keep track of calories with a low-point meal option.
“I think it’s along time coming that we should have this so I think it’s going to be a real hit that everyone’s going to enjoy,” Parks said.
“We’ll take their feedback. If they’re talking about salads, maybe some veggie wraps, different stuff like that we can consider that and accommodate them,” she said.
