OLD TOWN – Officials from the Hirundo Wildlife Refuge had their first annual holiday special event Saturday with crafts, cookies, cocoa and caroling.
The Christmas family event had dozens partaking in special Christmas arts and crafts.
“Our goal was to bring in some of the younger kids, try to get them to do a little bit of kinds of the Christmas crafting that we like to do at Hirundo, using the natural materials. Getting them to take a little bit of plant material and tree material and putting it all together as a Christmas decoration,” said Hirundo Wildlife Refuge Volunteer Larry Beauregard.
After the Christmas crafting, the University of Maine Renaissance and the Maine Steiners joined for special caroling.
“The caroling, of course, is designed to lift the spirits for the season. We really thank the students from the university and the renaissance club and their efforts to kind of ring things up,” Beauregard said.
