HOLDEN – Thanks to a generous donation, Holden police now have a way to keep people warm at emergency scenes.
An unnamed woman in the area brought in several handmade quilts and blankets for police to keep in their vehicles.
Holden Police Chief Chris Greeley said they plan to give them out during cold emergency scenes, like late-night fires or car accidents.
Some in the department watch the woman’s home when she goes on vacation, and making quilts is something she does in her free time.
“These are intricately done. This is not like something real quick for five bucks. This is real quality stuff, different designs, different sizes for people that may be at some emergency, just wonderful,” said Chief Greeley.
He said he was recently talking to fellow police officers who work in other states, and they told him they don’t see the local support for police like there is here in Maine.
