BANGOR- Hundreds of people gathered in West Market Square to ring in the New Year.
“I’m excited and looking forward to 2020; it s going to be a great year,” said one of the people enjoying the downtown festivities.
Following tradition, a massive beach ball was thrown from the roof of Paddy Murphy’s as the clock struck twelve.
“The previous owner of the building started it by throwing a small beach ball, wrapped in lights, from Marden’s as a joke and it just grew from there,” said John Dobbs, the current owner of Paddy Murphy’s.
Bangor’s mayor, Clare Davitt, had the honor of bringing the city into the new year by pushing the ball from the building.
“I had a blast. It’s been great to have been back home for this,” said someone visiting home for the holidays.
“I’ve had a fantastic time this year,” said another person. “I’ve been here for three or four years and this is absolutely the best one.”
As 2019 came to a close, people started looking forward to the best yet to come.
“I’m not a big resolutions person,” said one man “But being a better person, obviously to lose a few pounds.”
“Getting a new place and doing things right throughout the year,” another woman said when asked what her goals were.
Have a happy and safe New Years.
