AUGUSTA – An Indiana-based advocacy group is suing Maine’s secretary of state.
Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson for the Public Interest Legal Foundation said it has asked a federal court to force Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap to release voter registration records.
The foundation requested the state’s entire voter file with voting histories in October of last year, it said in a news release.
Dunlap rejected the group’s request the same day it was submitted.
According to the foundation’s lawsuit, Dunlap denied the request because the information was not going to be used to further a political campaign’s efforts.
A spokesperson for the secretary of state said they do not comment on pending litigation.
