PRESQUE ISLE – Investigators have learned the email that threatened a shooting at Presque Isle High School Thursday morning was generated by a virtual private network or V.P.N., which is a for-purchase IP address.
Presque Isle police are tracking the purchase of the V.P.N. to narrow the focus to specific suspects.
Authorities say they do not believe the email came from outside the state or country.
Although schools in S.A.D. 1 were open Friday with scheduled police walk-throughs, police say attendance was down as many families erred on the side of caution.
Presque Isle police will continue the investigation and their collaboration with other agencies.
