BANGOR – John Bapst Memorial High School held their ninth annual celebration of the Lunar New Year.
Most people know about the Chinese New Year, but many don’t know that it’s based on the lunar calendar.
Head of school, Mel MacKay, said this holiday is celebrated in many countries throughout Asia.
The night kicked off with a tradition lion dance. Students also played traditional Chinese instruments along with singing and dancing.
“The Lunar New Year Celebration symbolizes our commitment to our international students. I think people are starting to understand in America how big this holiday is because we see more and more news from Asia,” MacKay said.
This event is put on by the students each year.
