ELLSWORTH – Sen. Angus King spent Wednesday touring seafood processing companies in Hancock County in order to get a “deep dive” into the state’s marine economy.
He started at Maine Coast Sea Vegetables in Hancock, where he was treated to a snack of seasoned kelp and granola products.
Then King headed off to Maine Shellfish Company in Ellsworth, where they have been picking fresh lobster and serving the area’s seafood needs since 1949.
“Goal number one: listening and learning and number two seeing if there are issues I can help within this emerging and growing area of the Maine economy,” King said. “We’re calling it the blue economy.”
Pemaquid Mussel Farm in Bucksport rounded out the day for King’s tour. The company opened in 2007 and provides rope-grown mussels.
