BANGOR- Bangor city councilors are looking at making changes to the current leash ordinance.
Soon, dogs will need to be on leashes in the waterfront area.
Right now, dogs can be off leash most places in the city if they are under control by the owner.
There are places dogs can’t be off leash such as areas of City Forest, Cascade Park, and Brown Park.
“From the Sea Dog down to Dutton Street, that area will become a leash required area,” said animal control officer, Trish Bruen. “Due to the large number of people that use it, food trucks, cars, kids on bikes that are down there, the parking lot, it’s just gotten to be a little too busy.”
Councilors said there will likely be a first reading at their next full meeting before this topic moves to committee.
