AUGUSTA (AP) – After his decision to revoke the Libertarian Party’s official status, Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap is being sued by the party.
According to the Associated Press, the lawsuit alleges more than 6,000 voter registrations were discarded after libertarians were removed from the party without permission.
Maine’s recent voter registration data shows there are a little more than 100 registered libertarians in the state, which is below the minimum amount required by state law.
The Associated Press says the party qualified for party status in July of 2016, when it enrolled with more than 5,000 members, but did not meet the state law requirement in the next general election.
Dunlap’s office declined to comment.
