BANGOR- The Literacy Volunteers of Bangor hosted the eighth annual Literacy Tea fundraiser, but with a little twist.
To practice social distancing, the group hosted the tea party on Facebook, with different people posting to their page with pictures of what each of their tea parties looks like.
“We couldn’t let it die because people were saying ‘How can we still keep this going and how can we still maintain the tradition of getting together and reading books and enjoying each other’s company when we can’t get together in one big great room,” Literacy Volunteers of Bangor Executive Director Mary Marin Taylor said.
She said before the party was moved online, they had sold over three hundred tickets in less than three days.
All the funds from those sales will help the volunteers tutor the 400 adults who are part of their free English language tutoring program.
