BANGOR – Since Thanksgiving is celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday in November, the number of weeks separating Thanksgiving and Christmas can change.
Unlike last year, where people had a month between holidays, this year it’s just three weeks.
“Hopefully people are realizing it’s going to be a week shorter this year,” said Rick Vigue, owner of Rebecca’s Gift Shop. “The day after Thanksgiving is really a week late.”
“It does kinds of make a short season a little bit shorter. But we make the best of it. Usually weather is on our side, most of the time,” said Brad Rider, of Epic Sports.
Holiday shoppers began to come through the doors in the last couple of weeks, said the owner of the downtown outdoor sporting shop. He said in his line of business, snow is helpful.
“A little more white stuff, I know that’s not always popular, but a little white stuff on the ground always helps, too,” Rider said.
The post office staff also is reminding people that with the shorter shopping season, there is a shorter mailing season.
They suggest getting packages mailed as soon as possible.
