BANGOR The Mansion Church has opened its doors as a warming center to the homeless.
Pastor Terry Dinkins said they made the decision to do so after the area homeless shelter closed theirs early.
Following state guidelines, no more than 10 people will be allowed in the shelter.
Dinkins said they’ve been prioritizing who they allow in based on age and health.
“We’re really challenging other churches in the local area. I think I counted ten in a mile and a half of this place,” Dinkins said. “If they could do that too and they could open their doors, I really think that would solve the problem of homelessness or at least get them off the street for the evening.”
In the meantime, they need volunteers to stay overnight.
They’re also looking for donations of food, clothes and sleeping bags.
