AUGUSTA- A national discussion has heated up about whether or not to send students back to school in the fall.
Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah said his opinion on the topic in Wednesday’s CDC briefing, stating that school children need to return to classroom learning in the fall.
“Our baseline presumption as we think about returning to school is that school children should be returning to physical in-class education come the fall. The goal is how to make that happen in a manner that provides for safety for the children as well as teachers, administrators as well as other staff that work in the school,” Shah said.
He added many decisions will be made on the local level.
Currently the CDC and the Department of Education are designing the framework that will put students back in school.
