AUGUSTA – The COVID-19 pandemic is headed for a collision with flu season.
According to the Maine Center for Disease Control Director Dr. Nirav Shah, contracting both COVID-19 and the flu can be difficult to treat.
He says even though some of the symptoms for each virus are similar, they need to be treated separately.
“The reason that we’re really urging everyone to get their flu shot is that we don’t to be in a position where individuals could potentially have symptoms that could be COVID or the flu,” Shah said. “If we know someone has had the flu vaccine it makes the flu a less likely diagnosis.”
Shah recommends everyone who can get the flu shot should get the vaccine.
He says it’s will be the best thing you can do to protect your family this coming winter.
