STATEWIDE – The flu has claimed its first victim under the age of 5 in Maine.
According to a statement released by the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the child lived in southern Maine and had not been vaccinated against the flu this season.
A statement further said that the child tested positive for influenza B.
So far this flu season the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention has recorded 19 adult deaths attributed to the flu.
A spokesperson for Maine CDC recommends that parents seek medical care for children who may be suffering from flu-like symptoms.
