STATEWIDE – For the past two years on Valentine’s Day, Maine Energy workers set out across the state to deliver some love and free oil.
“We have a list of people that we’re going to go and visit and see if we can wish them a Happy Valentine’s Day,” said the Maine Energy President Robert Cort.
From Bangor to Winterport and beyond, six Maine Energy customers from the area received a little more than chocolates and flowers this Valentine’s Day.
“Fuel as well and it’s all going to be on us,” said Daniel Cort, who is a driver for the company.
“Giving back to the community is really important to us. We do a lot with so many of our customers and we don’t really ever get a chance to really just say thank you,” he said.
Maine Energy tells their customers they’re just coming to check their fuel but when they arrive the customers are in for a sweet surprise.
“I was expecting them between 9 and and 10 a.m. to check my oil tank and when I saw the whole group I thought, ‘Who are these people?'” Lovern Stockwell, a Maine Energy customer, said.
Robert Cort said getting to surprise their costumers and seeing the look on their faces is priceless.
“It makes your heart warm,” he said.
Between the holidays and the cold winter weather in Maine, Daniel Cort said this time of year comes at a higher price for some people.
Stockwell has been a customer with Maine Energy, she said, since 1964. She was surprised and thankful to the workers for choosing her.
“For sure! And I don’t have any chocolate to give back,” Stockwell said.
Cort said he hopes to fuel love year after year.
“Thank you very much and keep my house warm and great service,” Stockwell said. “And everything else.”
