AUGUSTA — With the election less than two weeks away. Secretary of State Matt Dunlap is encouraging people to vote.
The COVID-19 pandemic is deterring people from voting in person, making absentee voting a more viable option.
Dunlap said there has been a significant increase in requests for absentee ballots.
“In the first hour we processed 2,000 applications. In the first day, it was 20,000. In the first week 55,000 and as I mentioned earlier, as of yesterday we’re up to 390,000 for requests for absentee ballots,” Dunlap said in a virtual question and answer session.
To request an absentee ballot, you can go to the Secretary of State’s page on maine.gov.
Dunlap said only time will tell if absentee voting is something Mainers will want to continue to do in the future.
