STATEWIDE — Gov. Janet Mills announced Thursday the first round of federally funded COVID-19 relief grants coming to Maine.
According to a statement from the governor, $105 million will be distributed to more than 2,000 small businesses and about 250 nonprofit organizations.
The statement said the grants average about $40,000 each.
Mills said the grants “offer a lifeline to the businesses, but won’t replace lost sales.”
The statement said 35 percent of the grants were awarded to businesses in the hospitality industry.
