AUGUSTA – Legislators and out-of-work Mainers want Congress to pass the latest COVID-19 relief package.
The federal unemployment benefits expired at the end of last week for laid-off workers. Legislators say Mainers have been experiencing revenue shortfalls and struggling financially.
“I’m just not sure how I’m going to, I mean I’m losing all of that money and I didn’t ask for this and I’m not really sure how I’m going to make ends meet,” said Dan Adams, a laid off truck driver.
Democratic Sen., Shenna Bellows, of Manchester said the Senate needs to stop playing political games with people’s lives.
Nearly 80,000 Mainers filed for unemployment claims last week, according to Bellows.
