BANGOR – A new walking and biking trail designed to ease travel around the Bangor Mall is nearing completion.
The trail starts near Eastern Maine Community College’s Rangeley Hall and circles around the northbound Interstate 95 exit for Stillwater Avenue.
“I’m just totally thrilled to see this actually happening after nearly 20 years of working on it. It is really awesome,” said Bangor Land Trust President Lucy Quimby.
Once complete, the nearly half-mile path will be a 12-foot wide paved travel route.
The federal government is paying 80 percent of the $433,000 project’s cost, with the city and local trail partners pitching in the rest.
