SOMERSET COUNTY – A Houlton man was arrested after allegedly leading police on a high speed chase in Skowhegan.
According to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, 34 year old Derek Nickerson entered the home of his former spouse in Canaan, violating a protection from abuse order.
No one was at home at the time, but Nickerson was seen walking through the house via security system.
The woman called the sheriff’s office, and as authorities responded, Nickerson was seen on Route 2 and a pursuit began.
Police say he was speeding on the wrong side of the road and failing to obey traffic signs.
Police eventually forced Nickerson off the road, ending the chase on Heselton street in Skowhegan.
Nickerson was arrested on an outstanding warrant for violation of a protection order.
Nickerson was also charged with criminal trespass, eluding an officer, failure to stop, excessive speed of more than 30 miles over the limit, and refusing to submit to arrest.
Additional charges are possible, pending a review by the District Attorney’s office.
