ORLAND — A man was killed Sunday afternoon in a boating accident on Toddy Pond, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Ryan Conary, 26, of Sanford was sitting on the back of a boat with several others about 1 p.m. when it was struck from behind by a jet ski driven by a 17-year-old female.
Both were a part of a gathering of family and friends on the pond, officials said.
Conary, who was not wearing a life jacket, was hit by the jet ski and thrown into the water.
His body was recovered around 2:30 p.m. and was taken to Mitchell and Tweedie Funeral Home in Bucksport.
Several others were also thrown into the water during the collision, the news release said.
A 13-year-old boy, who was wearing a life jacket, was transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center and later to Maine Medical Center with leg, head and possible internal injuries.
The news release said 13 people were aboard the 23-foot boat and a driver and passenger were on the jet ski.
The Maine Warden Service is continuing to investigate the crash.
