BANGOR – A North Carolina man wanted for murder has been captured in Bangor.
29-year-old John “Jay” Tolson was picked up Monday afternoon.
A Penobscot County Jail official said Tolson was wanted for second degree murder out of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, and added Tolson was picked up on an extraditable warrant.
News coverage from Kitty Hawk in July stated 38-year-old Leeann Fletcher Hartleben was found unconscious on July 22 and died a few days later at the hospital.
The Island Free Press story states police interviewed Jay Tolson of Hatteras Island, listed as Hartleben’s boyfriend and a person of interest in the case at that time.
A press release from Lt. Tim Cotton of the Bangor Police said Tolson has been living within Bangor’s homeless population for an undetermined amount of time.
