DIXFIELD (WGME) – A Massachusetts man is recovering in a Lewiston hospital after he slid down a cliff on Saturday night, according to the Maine Warden Service.
Robert Burns, 54, of Waltham, Mass. was riding with his nephew up Holt Hill.
Around 10:30, Burns was looking over the cliff known as Bull Rock when he slipped and slid down the 300-foot cliff, wardens said.
Burns’ nephew called 911.
The Dixfield fire chief said it was several degrees below zero when firefighters first arrived and they had to make their own trail through the snow and woods to reach Burns.
He was loaded on a sled and wardens and first responders carried him to an ambulance at around 2 a.m.
More than a dozen people shared the work carrying Burns to the ambulance.
Burns was flown to Central Maine Medical Center after suffering injuries to his head, leg and chest.
He is in stable condition.
