BANGOR – The two men accused of killing a Bangor man inside his Essex Street home last year both entered not guilty pleas in court Monday afternoon.
Joseph “JJ” Johnson, 30, of Old Town and Cote Choneska, 40, of Veazie are each charged with murder and arson.
The charges stem from the death of 59-year-old Berton Conley.
On Nov. 1, firefighters were called to 258 Essex Street shortly before 8 a.m., where they found Conley unconscious.
He was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center where he died.
Last month, both men were indicted by the Penobscot County Grand Jury on the murder and arson charges.
Superior Court Justice William Anderson ordered Johnson and Choneska to be held without bail.
