SEBAGO (WGME) – Police said the woman whose body was found inside a car submerged in the Ossipee River in Parsonsfield is Sarah McCarthy, the Sebago woman reported missing on Saturday.
According to our media partners in southern Maine, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said a passerby noticed a vehicle submerged in the river just before 1 p.m. Sunday.
Emergency crews responded, pulled the vehicle from the river and found McCarthy inside.
Police said evidence from the scene shows McCarthy was driving west on Federal Road, which is Route 25, at a high rate of speed and failed to navigate a turn, hitting a snowbank and ending up in the river.
McCarthy worked at the pub on Maple Street as a bartender and waitress. She planned to meet a friend but never arrived.
