OLD TOWN – The Old Town Police Department has become the first law enforcement agency in Maine to achieve state accreditation.
The Maine Law Enforcement Accreditation Program, or MLEAP, found the department to be in compliance with the 162 identified standards for law enforcement agencies in Maine. These standards cover all aspects of law enforcement operations.
In a news release, MLEAP Program Director Liz Allen said the Old Town police department has earned the highest recognition of law enforcement professional excellence in Maine were the very first to do so.
“That is really something to be proud of,” Allen said.
The Maine Chiefs of Police Association will formally present the Old Town Police Department a certificate of accreditation at a ceremony at its winter conference in February.
