ORLAND- A man is dead after falling through the ice on Alamoosook Lake in Orland.
It happened around 7:15 on Wednesday night.
Authorities say 63 year-old Brian Wardwell of Orland was driving on the ice when his pickup went through.
Someone on the shore heard him and called 911.
Firefighters were able to get him out of the water, but he died before getting to the hospital.
With the recent weather patterns, authorities are warning people to be extra cautious on the ice …
“It’s been very strange weather. It’s almost been like spring recently. We’re not building good ice right now,” said Chris Roy, the district warden. “It’s tough, especially in areas like this. If you’re not familiar with the area, the moving water, the inlets, outlets…the ice is always very poor.”
The incident is under investigation by the Maine Warden Service.
