ORONO- A proposed ordinance regarding retail marijuana sales in Orono was back in front of town councilors on Monday night.
The ordinance touches on rules regarding things such as signage and licensing.
With this ordinance, retail marijuana stores would be limited to commercial areas, meaning there would be none downtown or the University District.
Town councilors have been collecting feedback from residents throughout the process.
“We spent a lot of time looking at what would be the best areas for each type of establishment and what districts they fit in and where they don’t fit in in relation to other uses and residential areas,” said town planner, Kyle Drexler.
Councilors decided they would set a date for a referendum on this ordinance at a future meeting.
