ORRINGTON- The Orrington Fire Department is upgrading more than it’s building this year.
They recently received two grants.
One from the Maine Forest Service for forestry gear.
The other is from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program for new air packs and face masks.
Both grants total up to more than $91,000.
In addition to the new equipment, their new public safety building is expected to be complete in June.
“We are very cramped here, out of space. The trucks barely fit,” said Lt. Nathan Seward with the Orrington Fire Department. “It’s going to give us more room and a lot safer working conditions.”
As of the latest check, the apparatus bay and the office part are completely enclosed.
The bay is fully sided on the outside and walls are starting to go up inside.
