ORRINGTON – A person was killed after getting hit by a vehicle in Orrington Thursday evening.
According to Staff Sergeant Roy Peary with the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened around 5:30 p.m. near 1091 River Road, also known as Route 15.
According to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, 34 year old Megan McGraw of Bangor was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The biggest thing right now that we try to do is figure out how it happened, why it happened, and what we can try to do in the future to try to avoid these types of things,” said Sgt. Peary.
Officials said it appears McGraw was hitchhiking on the southbound side of route 15 when she was struck by a Ford Explorer driven by 45 year old Kelli Veilleux of Bucksport.
They said it does not appear speed or alcohol were factors.
The accident remains under investigation.
