BANGOR – Dozens of people were indicted by the Penobscot County grand jury Thursday, many for drug charges.
Among the others, however, were two men who police said allegedly killed a Bangor man inside his Essex Street home and then set the residence on fire.
Police said Joseph Johnson, 30, of Old Town Cote Choneska, 40, of Veazie were charged with the murder of Berton Conley.
Firefighters found Conley’s body in his home in November of last year.
Both Choneska and Johnson were also indicted on arson charges.
They are being held without bail at Penobscot County Jail.
Also indicted was a former Cub Scout leader from Howland who’s accused of sexually assaulting an underage boy.
James Cameron, 56, faces charges of unlawful sexual contact and three counts of gross sexual assault.
The charges stem from incidents in 1998 and 2019.
He was arrested in November of last year.
A man already indicted on charges in connection with the alleged rape of his 12-year-old relative is now facing new charges.
The grand jury indicted Paul Fiske of Lincoln on two counts of gross sexual assault and sexual abuse of a minor.
Fiske is accused of raping the girl in January of last year.
Today’s indictments for Fisk replaced previous charges after new evidence was found by investigators.
