BANGOR- At least one person died and several others were injured following a 6.4 magnitude earthquake in Puerto Rico on Tuesday.
“My whole family is down there. I got four brothers and sisters. My mom. My dad. Everyone is down there,” said Coach Ruzzo, a personal trainer at L.A. Training in Bangor and Puerto Rico native. “I woke up yesterday to texts from all my family saying don’t worry we’re okay. Like okay from what? What happened?”
On Wednesday night, he hosted a workout fundraiser to help those affected.
All money is going toward the World Kitchen.
“He’s going to these places with people who lost everything and just feeding them,” Ruzzo said. “That’s what I plan on doing, sending them the money, so they can by the food and feed the people in need.”
“I‘m here today because what happened in Puerto Rico is very very devastating and this is a way for me to give back to them,” said one of the participants, Denae Hatch.
He held a similar fundraiser two years ago after a hurricane devastated the island.
“The community came together so tight and made me feel so welcome,” Ruzzo said. “It’s always been like that and that’s why I feel like this is home too. That’s my home and this is my home because the support of the community.”
Only a few people turned out for this workout, but Ruzzo said he plans to hold more soon.
