HAMPDEN – New evidence has caused the state to dismiss arson charges against a Princeton man.
Mark Roussel, 35, initially was believed to have started a fire at a friend’s home on Main Road in Hampden last Monday night.
Penobscot County District Attorney Marianne Lynch said investigators with the state fire marshal’s office now have discovered evidence that raised doubt about the charges.
“The state filed a dismissal last night after hours, contacted the court. Mr. Roussel was released last night from the Penobscot County Jail. I cannot comment further on the case as it is a very sensitive nature of the investigation at this time and it is still under active investigation,” Lynch said.
Further details about the cause of the fire have not been released.
