BANGOR – Around the same time President Donald Trump was acquitted in the impeachment trial against him Wednesday afternoon, folks in Maine gathered to protest the decision.
A group of demonstrators gathered outside the Federal Building in Bangor, saying they thought the impeachment trial was more of a cover-up than anything.
According to them, the president and republican senators like Susan Collins betrayed Americans during Wednesday’s vote.
“They are acquitting a man who has truly been convicted of bribery and obstruction of congress,” said Melissa Berky of Indivisible Bangor. “It’s just really a very dark day for America. We are here to commemorate a really big historical moment.”
There were also protests in Belfast, Brunswick and Portland, in addition to other planned throughout the country.
