BELFAST- On Wednesday night, the Belfast planning board heard from members of the public about a proposed aquafarm.
Right now, the planning board is reviewing Nordic Aquafarms’ 2,000 page permit application.
They need to obtain four separate permits from the city.
People brought forward concerns about the location of the proposed aquafarm and its environmental impact.
This was the last opportunity for public comment on the application.
“At that point, they will start their formal deliberation and Wayne, the director of planning, will be going through the ordinance line item by line item and section by section to confirm that the planning board is ready to make decisions,” explained Edward Cotter, a senior vice president for Nordic Aquafarms.
Cotter says they hope to have the city permitting process completed by early March.
They also hope to have their DEP permit by that time.
