BANGOR – Senator Angus King says there’s some good news for Social Security recipients when it comes to receiving payments from the recently passed coronavirus economic relief bill.
The IRS says beneficiaries will receive direct stimulus payments from the CARES Act, without having to file tax returns or other paperwork.
The Maine Independent Senator and dozens of other lawmakers urged the IRS to change its filing requirement in an effort to help seniors avoid a stressful situation.
“People on Social Security, even though they may not have filed a tax return, are going to get their check,” Sen. King said. “This was a victory for seniors in Maine, and I think it’s an important one.”
In terms of when folks will be getting their stimulus checks, King says if you use direct deposit, you’ll get it by the end of next week.
In terms of those getting physical checks in the mail and Social Security recipients, he says that should be fairly prompt as well.
