STATEWIDE – Because people throughout Maine have been hit hard by the opioid crisis, the Point North Institute has partnered with the state to host film screenings of “Recovery Boys” across the state.
The film follows four men working toward a better life in recovery.
The movie was shown Wednesday night at the Penobscot Theater in Bangor and the next screening is set for Thursday night at Cary Medical Center in Caribou.
A panel discussion featuring Maine Director of Opioid Response Gordon Smith, film Director Elaine McMillion Sheldon and representatives from local resource groups followed the screening.
“I, myself, have lost friends and classmates to this crisis and it was really important to destigmatize this issue and see people as full human beings that are overcoming huge challenges,” Sheldon said.
The film also can be seen on Netflix.
