AUGUSTA – The Maine Legislature will be looking at several bills at the end of this month in an effort to open recreational marijuana retail stores.
Lawmakers said there will be a public hearing on bills related to rule making, including a bill that would allow medical and recreational marijuana to be sold at the same place.
Since it was voted on in 2016, finding out how to regulate the system has taken a while, lawmakers said.
“Setting up a complete system takes a great deal of time you know to set up the regulatory structure, the testing facilities I think…those are things we need in place before we can start,” said Sen. Louis Luchini, D-Ellsworth.
The state began accepting applications for adult use marijuana retailers in December.
