BANGOR – The American Red Cross is running low on type O blood and they’re looking for people to donate.
Staff at the Bangor donor center said over holiday months they’ve lost about 7,000 pints of blood due to low sponsorship.
They said that typically happens when people are busy during the holidays.
So now the Red Cross is looking for donors, especially O positive and O negative blood types.
“The reason that we want the O negative is because it’s what’s used in most trauma situations. It’s something that’s the go-to in all of the emergency rooms because it is the universal blood type and can be used for any patient,” said Red Cross Donor Recruitment Associate Beverly Austin.
To donate blood, go to the Red Cross website to find your regional donor center.
Bangor’s is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
