SEARSPORT – Valentine’s Day came early for some at the First Congregational Church in Searsport Saturday.
The Women’s Fellowship of the Searsport First Congregational Church hosted their annual Valentine Chocolate Fest.
This festival featured a variety of chocolate pastries, cake, cupcakes and other chocolate candies available for people to enjoy.
“These are donated by the members of the ladies fellowship. People brought in things. If you can make it out of chocolate, you’ll find it in here today,” said Charlene Knox Farris, a women’s fellowship member.
“I think it’s the day out of the year that it’s okay to indulge,” she said.
Proceeds from the Chocolate Fest went to the Greater Bay Area Interfaith Fuel Fund.
“More than ever we realize that there are people in all our towns that it is not easy for them to put heat in their house and food on their table. Anything the church can do to help that’s what we want to do. That’s a mission all churches certainly must have,” Knox Farris said.
She also said the church’s fuel fund provides grants to purchase home heating oil for those in need who have applied for assistance.
