WARREN – According to a statement from the Maine Department of Corrections, all prisoners and staff within the Maine Correctional Center will be retested for coronavirus, as part of the department’s “proactive” effort to stop the spread of the illness.
The statement, released Wednesday evening, said the second round of testing is underway.
A total of four inmates tested positive for COVID-19 last week. They remain in isolation, according to the statement.
The plan is to test 200 individuals per day until all staff, inmates and vendors have been tested.
The department said it expects the results from the retesting to be returned within 24 to 72 hours.
