PORTLAND (WGME) – Sen. Susan Collins’ office is sharing some of the often profanity-laced voicemails being left for her as the president’s impeachment trial continues.
A spokesperson for the senator said Collins’ staff members are getting a lot of voicemails and messages right now to both their offices in Maine and Washington, D.C.
They claim many of them are not nasty and that they are getting supportive ones as well, but they said far too many contain profanity-laced insults that they insist won’t affect her vote.
Here are a few of the messages the spokesperson was referring to:
“You’re a disgrace. A disgrace. To this country. Not just to the senate. But to this country. You’re a traitor. You’re a **** traitor.”
“You’re going to lose Susan Collins. You’re going to lose. You’re just a little b***h for Donald Trump.”
“Are you in some kind of satanic cult? I don’t understand why you’re doing the devil’s work. I truly am confused as to why you hate America.”
The senator’s office didn’t really give a reason for releasing the voicemails — which they say they’ve endured on and off since the October 2018 confirmation hearing of Brett Kavanaugh, which did include a threatening letter sent to her Bangor home that resulted in federal charges for the person who sent it.
It’s worth noting that Collins, herself, has criticized President Trump at times for his use of crude language against his political opponents.
