PENOBSCOT COUNTY – It’s the season of giving, and law enforcement officers in Penobscot County are doing their part to help those in need during the holidays.
For the fourth year in a row, an anonymous donor has provided funding to go towards buying people’s groceries.
Monday, sheriff’s deputies were out and about in rural areas of Penobscot County, meeting with folks and surprising them by helping pay for their food.
“The fun thing of this is it’s incredibly rewarding for the officers to respond to something extremely positive, meet with some folks here,” said Penobscot County Sheriff Troy Morton. “When we talk about food insecurities and some of those things, those are the most important needs that folks have, is making sure that they’re fed.”
Sheriff Morton said they work with local businesses to identify people who might need a helping hand.
